Luxor

Luxor “the city of hundred doors”, or “Thebes” in ancient Egypt, is located in Upper Egypt and used to be the capital of the Middle Kingdom and the New Kingdom. itis located on the banks of the Nile River while splitting it to west and east. It’s 417 square Km. It is the greatest open-air museum in the world. It contains a lot of monuments and temples that held a great position in ancient Egypt. It was the home of a lot Pharaohs for a long time since its construction in the 11th Dynasty by the king Montuhotep II from (2575 B.C) until the (332 B.C),  in this era, the city gains a lot of fame due to the number of temples and tombs that hold incredible history and beauty. It was even an attraction for tourists since ancient times during the ancient Greek and Roman Periods. Now, Luxor is the major attraction for tourists in Egypt due to its monuments and phenomenal weather all year long where tourists can visit Luxor easily in winter without suffering from cold.

Luxor has a very big number of temples and monuments it’s the home of the largest religious temple in the world, El-Karnak Temple which is located at the center of the city. The Colossi of Memnon which belongs to Amenhotep III in the 18th dynasty. Dendara Temple that dates back to the Roman era. The Temple of Luxor the second largest temple after EL-Karnak Temple, it was built by Amenhotep II and Ramses II for one of the most important celebrations which are the festival of Opet during the 18th dynasty that took 11days. The Valley of the Kings and The Valley of the Queens that belonged to the Kings and Queens from the 18th dynasty to 20th dynasty. The temple of Queen Hatshepsut one of the most famous temples in the world was designed by the Queen’s personal architect Senenmu.
